Reach enlightenment at Wisdom Tree Live

Some folk are of the mind that adaptations of novels can never match up to the original source material. Well, they’re wrong – Wisdom Tree Live is gracing the Brisbane Writers Festival on Saturday September 10 to prove that it can be oh so right. The crew here at The Weekend Edition are super stoked to be presenting the debut of this all-in, one-of-a-kind living book experience.

Brisbane’s very own Nick Earls has an appeal that goes far beyond the river city. His literary works have earned him a rep as one of the most loved raconteurs in the country, and this is solidified in his latest project. Wisdom Tree is a suite of five fresh novellas, each individually released once a month since May this year. After teasing readers with these regular instalments, he’s putting the pieces together with Wisdom Tree Live presented by The Weekend Edition. Landing at the Maiwar Green for Brisbane Writers Festival, the event is an evening of music, literature and drama set to bring his novellas to life in mad cabaret style.

Joining Nick are four local creatives and performers – Bridget Boyle, Lucas Stibbard, Andrew Cory, and Charlie Cush – who will read aloud and physically interpret the novellas. Audiences will be taken across the world from New York to Vancouver, from L.A. to Alaska and landing right back home in Brisbane. To add another level, homegrown musicians will be playing five songs chosen by Nick to reflect the themes that run through Wisdom Tree. The tunes explore what it’s like to be a family in this modern world of unpredictability, celebrity and terrorism. It’s a fun, free and insightful evening out that’s sure to stoke some creative fire.
