Circa returns to present When One Door Closes at La Boite

This unique production examines what happens when stories, worlds and bodies collide when three classic plays are combined into one.

Three turn-of-the-century plays including Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler and A Doll’s House and August Strindberg’s Miss Julie will be mixed up revitalised with a heavy dose of circus magic for When One Door Closes. This creative endeavour is a collaboration between Circa and La Boite, the first between the two companies. La Boite’s 2015 Brisbane Festival in-the-round artistic director Todd MacDonald and Sydney-based composer Onnagh Sherrard have come on board to add their own professional take on the non-narrative production, being staged from April 6–23.

When One Door Closes reimagines the three plays and the central figures in each, all of which are 20th century heroines. The production poses a hypothetical situation where all three characters exist and interact in the same space – asking how they would navigate each other through acrobatic theatre. When One Door Closes is directed by Yaron Lifschitz and Libby McDonnell and will be performed by the talented members of the Circa Ensemble. Buy your tickets from the La Boite website now.
