Help rebuild a village in Nepal through a night at the Village of Light Festival
Join in on a spectacular night of dancing, drumming, fire twirling, live music and entertainment to help those in need in Nepal at the Village of Light Festival.
Northey Street City Farm always has great socially and environmentally conscious events on its line up, from permaculture and climate change to basket-weaving workshops. This weekend’s Village of Light Festival on Friday November 13 is one event not to be missed. Themed to inspire the triumph of light over darkness, the festival coincides with the Nepalese Hindu Festival and aims to help rebuild the village of Bakrang in Gorkha, Nepal through earth-bag building.
The entertainment schedule for the night includes performances by Mamiko the Mistress of the Marimba, Vix Bluesinger and the movement-inspiring music of Koii. There will be talks about the current affairs in Nepal, a candle ceremony, ballet performances, Nepalese singers, Bollywood dancers, Element Tribe fire twirling to the drumming rhythms of Spankinhide, as well as an interactive installation by visual lighting artist Michelle de Zwart.
There will be Nepalese food, pizza, chai, bliss balls, beer, wine and kombucha cocktails to accompany the entertainment line-up. Tickets are limited and pre-sale only, so jump onto the Northey Street City Farm events page to buy your tickets. General admission tickets are $15, but if you are feeling generous you have the option to ‘share your light’ and pay more to attend this thought-provoking event.
