Embrace the craziness of motherhood at Viking Mama
If you relate to crazy mornings with your kids running out the door shoes in hand or if you have ever felt awkward at mother’s group meetings, dishevelled at school drop offs or shamefully unorganised in front of the in-laws then Viking Mama sets a familiar scene.
Viking Mama presents a day in the life of a Viking mother, Jenny Wynter, who is throwing a last minute third birthday bash for her Viking son who is played by a lettuce. Yes, you read that correctly – a lettuce is representative of Jenny’s Viking Son. This exciting cabaret performance features the wild tribe members of Jenny’s community (all played by Jenny herself) including a passive aggressive neighbour, overtly considerate husband and an hyper-inappropriate grandmother.
Adding to the humour of this performance are the backing vocals of the Valkyries played by cabaret group Betty and the Betties, offering advice, support and the occasional misguidance to keep Jenny on her toes. A one woman rock opera that is just in time to celebrate Mother’s Day, Viking Mama is showing at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts from May 4 – 7 at 7:30 pm.
