Lend your ears to The Telstra Spiegeltent this September

Taking up residence in South Bank’s Cultural Forecourt from September 5–27, The Telstra Spiegeltent will dish up a feast for the senses.

The magnificent interior of the ornate wooden structure that is The Telstra Spiegeltent will play host to a fine catalogue of live music, comedy and acrobatics next month as Brisbane Festival returns for another brilliant year. All tastes will be catered for, from those who like their rock hard, to those who enjoy the melodic trickling of jazz, and others who get a thrill from watching bodies flying through the air. This year The Telstra Spiegeltent will feature drawcards like alt-pop maestro Andy Bull, Brisbane favourites The Kite String Tangle and Vancouver Sleep Clinic, as well as Grammy Award-winning Joe Henry and the creative driving force behind The Drones, Gareth Liddiard.

Following the overwhelming success of the late-night program last year, the tent won’t be closing until 2:30 am on Friday and Saturday nights, treating you to midnight shows and free DJs. But of course even those who have to adhere to bedtimes will enjoy the thrills of the Spiegeltent, with an array of family shows from slapstick comedy Kaput to acrobatic performance The Physical Impossibility of Disappearing.

The popular student showcase QUT Sessions will also return for another year, while local radio fans can drop in to A Day With Your ABC to hear a series of live radio recordings. Those who need a hearty chuckle can pop along to stand-up shows from Ronny Chieng and Triple J’s Matt Okine, while the record-breaking circus-cabaret act LIMBO will baffle minds with illusions and stunts. The open-air garden bar will keep the good times rolling as it dishes up tasty nibbles, festive beverages and free live music, but when the buzz of Brisbane Festival gets a little too much, simply slip inside The Telstra Spiegeltent on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy some silky live jazz.
