Give back to Woodfordia at The Planting Festival
Prior to the launch of one of the most-loved music festivals, Woodford Folk Festival, Woodfordia was a humble dairy farm. As the land as taken on larger events the site needs regular care to maintain its natural beauty, enter The Planting Festival.
This weekend from April 29 to May 1, the Woodfordia community welcomes young and old to it’s community tree-planting. From it’s humble planting beginnings, this event has now sprouted into a festival that includes educational talks, demonstrations, performances and a thriving festival scene whilst remaining dedicated to the regeneration and environmental sustainability of the land. A festival that is proudly more about for doing, than consuming. With more than 80 workshops, walks and wanders that can be booked, The Planting Festival covers textiles to bush foods, scientific drawing to bee-hive construction and live entertainment to engage everyone.
Drawcard speakers include The Economics of Climate Change by Chief Economist Richard Denniss, an account by Tim Cope about his journey from Mongolia to Hungary and the price paid for intrepid desires, Underspent and Decongestion by Rachel Smith and Wayne Brennans talk on Reconciliation through Connectedness. The bamboo master Wang Wen-Chih will also return to Woodfordia as part of the installation lineup for The Planting Festival and musicians Old Man Luedecke, Laique, Izalco and Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary are just a couple of those that will be entertaining the crowds.
