The obliteration room delights little locals at QAGOMA

Interactive installation The obliteration room will return to the Gallery of Modern Art this weekend to spark creativity among Brisbane’s youngest residents.

It was first conceived for Brisbane’s 4th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art back in 2002 – and has since been seen by more than three million peepers in galleries around the globe – but now one of QAGOMA’s most popular interactive installations has returned home. Yayoi Kusama’s The obliteration room will reopen at the Gallery of Modern Art’s Children’s Art Centre this Saturday December 6, encouraging art enthusiasts of all ages to help transform the white domestic space into a colourful zone of dot stickers.

The obliteration room coincides with the gallery’s current focus on Japanese art and fashion, including Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion and We can make another future: Japanese art after 1989. The exhibition will close April 19, 2015.
