Kickstart your heart – a specialty laneway coffee festival is coming to The Valley

Somewhere along the line, coffee went from being a humble (albeit tasty) bean juice and evolved into a full-blown subculture. Brisbane has taken a firm grasp on the coffee-as-a-hobby phenomenon, fostering a caffeine culture that rivals its southern brethren. If you take your java seriously – or even if you just appreciate a good brew – there is a rad festival coming our way to celebrate all things to do with the good bean. The Lanes Coffee Festival is taking over Fortitude Valley’s three famous laneways on Saturday July 27, bringing a swag of experts together to enjoy, educate and discover.

As much as it’s tempting to make a hipster joke here, The Lanes Coffee Festival really has gone the extra mile to offer an authentic, indie coffee experience to its patrons. Underground roasters will be brought together with the big guns from Fonzie Abbott, Single O, Wolff Roasters, Coffee Supreme and Padre Coffee, all pooling their knowledge to share (as well as creating kick-ass brews for you to enjoy). If you can dream it, they can brew it here – think espresso, filter and alt-brews by day, followed by an evening focus on nitro espresso martinis and a pop-up Fonzie Abbott bar that you will have to see to believe.

It’s not just about the sipping and swilling – The Lanes Coffee Festival is offering a whole range of entertainment and education from day to night. The Main Stage will boast appearances from head honchos talking through blends, pressing, filters and everything in between, while the Latte Art Smackdown will separate the rookies from the pros. For the all-out bean nerds, there will be a range of ticketed Master Classes to take advantage of – learn the ins and outs of a perfect cold brew, Toddy, espresso martini or pourover from experts in the field. Don’t take it so seriously? There is still plenty to see and do throughout the festival, including live entertainment, delicious eats and killer tunes to keep the vibe high.

Want to get a serious buzz on? The Lanes Coffee Festival is taking over Fortitude Valley’s three famous laneways on Saturday July 27 – entry to the festival is free, but if you want to nab a spot at one of the coffee tours you can do so here.
