The Hold Artspace, West End

The Hold Artspace opens with Field in West End

A new contemporary art space is set to open in West End this weekend, showcasing the critical and innovative works of early and mid-career artists.

Directed by Queensland College of Art graduates Luke Kidd and Kylie Spear, The Hold Artspace provides opportunities for emerging curators, writers and artists to exhibit work. Encouraging collaboration and experimentation, the new venue will open this Friday night.

The inaugural exhibition is Field, curated by Lisa Bryan-Brown. Field examines the undertheorised chasm that is the relationship between female artists and the subject of landscape. The exhibition features seven established and emerging local artists, including Louise Bennett, Freda Davies, Madeline Keinonen, Carol McGregor, Monica Rohan, Camille Serisier and Shayna Wells. The opening celebrations will run this Friday March 1 from 6:00–9:00 pm, while artist talks will be held on March 17 from 2:00–5:00 pm.
