The Grigoryan Brothers are reflecting on what it means to be Australian in an intimate concert at Brisbane Powerhouse

For the not-so-in-the-know, The Grigoryan Brothers are considered Australia’s finest classical guitar duo – the pair have dazzled on stages in not only our Great Southern Land but across the world with their musical expertise. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Museum of Australia, Slava and Leonard Grigoryan have been inspired by a collection of iconic Australian artefacts to create a program of original works. Now, the brothers are hitting the road and making a pit stop at Brisbane Powerhouse on Friday February 25 to perform This Is Us: A Musical Reflection of Australia.

Being Australian is much, much more than meat pies, cork hats and the footy – and acclaimed guitarists, Slava and Leonard Grigoryan, are here to remind us of that. Inspired by a curated collection of objects from the National Museum of Australia, the Grigoryan Brothers (who were actually separated by closed state borders during the creation of the album) set about to produce a musical vision of what it means to be Australian. The result is an expansive and intimate program of completely original works that cannot be missed.

At their gig at Brisbane Powerhouse, the brother’s original songs will be performed alongside 3D projections of the culturally significant objects including artefacts that represent First Nations’ history to stories of migration and innovation. Guests can expect to hear 18 compositions that incorporate all their influences – from classical to jazz and contemporary music – performed on a variety of guitars (electric, eight-string tenor ukulele, twelve-string and classical).
