Hit musical The Book of Mormon announces its Brisbane dates

A decade ago, if you said the creators of South Park would be responsible for one of the most beloved Broadway musicals of all time, you’d have been laughed at. It seems truth is stranger than fiction, but no one can deny the rapturous response The Book of Mormon received upon its debut. The charming and cheeky tale of Mormon missionaries travelling to Uganda has resonated around the world, and it seems like it might soon be time for Brisbane to experience the comedic musical firsthand.

UPDATE: The Brisbane dates for The Book of Mormon have been announced! The acclaimed musical will be staged at QPAC from March 16 2019. Pre-sale tickets are already on sale, with general public tickets available from Tuesday August 7. Act fast, as these tickets are bound to sell out in record time.

Since it first made waves on Broadway in 2011, Australian theatre lovers have been clamouring for Tony Award-winning The Book of Mormon to venture to our fair shores. Our prayers were finally answered in 2017 when the musical production came down under, wowing audiences in Melbourne before venturing north to Sydney this year. Brisbane locals have been waiting with baited breath for news of The Book of Mormon’s Queensland run, and it seems we’ll get what we asked for sooner, rather than later.

Bus shelters across Brisbane recently started displaying advertising material for the musical, stating that the Mormons are coming our way. The Book of Mormon Facebook page added fuel to the fire with a picture of one such poster, indicating that good things come to those who waitlist. All signs point to a formal announcement, though at this stage dates and show details are scarce. Until the announcement is made, we’ll have to settle for listening to the soundtrack on Spotify a few more times.
