Technicolour Multicultural Festival lights up Newmarket

Newmarket’s Multicultural Community Centre will buzz with market stalls, live entertainment and delicious cuisine as the Technicolour Multicultural Festival springs into action this weekend.

The scent of satay skewers sizzling on the grill, the sounds of taiko drummers beating a pulsing rhythm and the sight of the Shaolin Kung Fu Guan lion dancing through the crowd will thrill locals of all ages as the Technicolour Multicultural Festival fills the DiverCiti Multicultural Community Centre this Saturday August 30. Enjoy free entry to the festival and save your pennies for the many temptations filling the market stalls, from arts and craft to pre-loved goods and fashion. Of course no multicultural festival is complete without excessive sampling of the cuisines of the world, which this year will include the likes of Korean pancakes and topokki, German bratwurst and roast pork with crispy crackling wraps.

Free live entertainment and raffles will keep punters amused throughout the day, with acts like the Ethiopia Bahil Dance Group, Pacific Island Jadda Dance Crew and Triple J Unearthed finalist Cypher taking to the performance stage. The Kids Zone will occupy active minds with a jumping castle, face painting and more, while the littlies are also invited to take part in a lantern-making workshop before the Chinese Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival in the evening. Head along to 23 Foster Street, Newmarket between 11:30 am and 5:30 pm and celebrate the brilliant diversity of culture enriching Brisbane.
