Rockwiz-inspired music variety show SUPERGROUP is coming to Brisbane

If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably spent many an evening working on your couch groove while tuning into music-fuelled shows like Spicks and Specks and Rockwiz. Watching iconic Aussie musos hang out on your tele is a barrel of fun, so that’s why we got pretty pumped up when we heard that a new type of live show – one starring some of the country’s biggest names in music – is set to kick off around Australia this July! Say hello to Georgia Mooney’s SUPERGROUP, an event so eclectic and star-studded, you’ll be remiss not to think you’re watching some of your favourite music-centric TV shows come to life.

When we think of our favourite supergroups throughout the decades, a few come to mind. There’s The Traveling Wilburys, Cream, Asia, and Crosby, Stills Nash & Young. While Australia might not have a similarly iconic supergroup to jam out to (okay, we’ll admit it, the Young Divas did produce some bangers), that might change when Georgia Mooney (of All Our Exes Live In Texas fame) brings her travelling music variety show, SUPERGROUP, to town this July. Joining Georgia for the two-night spectacular when it hits The Triffid on Wednesday July 27 will be Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music), Elizabeth and Seja, while Thursday July 28 will see Jeremy Neale, Hope D and Evil Eddie (Butterfingers) take the stage. Now that’s a solid line-up!

Originally debuted in Sydney in April 2019, SUPERGROUP quickly grew a cult-like following after a string of glorious, jam-packed concerts. A charming combination of Rockwiz and Spicks and Specks, and teeming with live music, interviews and stories you’re unlikely to hear anywhere else, this live show is one-of-a-kind, to say the least. It works like this – each night, a diverse team of lauded Aussie songwriters come together to form a band (a supergroup, if you will) for one night only. Seated in a semi-circle and backed by a talented house band, guests take turns to perform songs while the others join in beside them. The catch? There’s no rehearsals and it’s all improvisational – so you’ll be the first, and perhaps the last to hear some of your favourite tune makers sing a diddy like they do on the night.

Want to rock out with some homegrown music heroes? You can grab your tickets to SUPERGROUP at Georgia Mooney’s website.
