Where to eat, drink and get the best view for Sunsuper Riverfire
There is something truly wonderful about watching a whole room of grown adults rush to the window when they hear the distinct sound of fighter jets screaming across the sky. No matter what your age, you’re sure to feel a little twinge of excitement, and you know that Sunsuper Riverfire is back for another year. If you’re keen to fight the crowds but still get in on the action, we’ve rounded up the best vantage points for both your eyes and your tastebuds to be equally dazzled.
As September comes to a close, so too does Brisbane Festival. The month of theatre, music and art winds down, but not before being capped off with Brisbane’s biggest party. Sunsuper Riverfire will light up Brisbane’s sky once again on September 26, and the banks of the Brisbane River will be packed with revellers keen to see the fireworks displays and aerial acrobatics from the Australian Defence Force Super Hornets.
If you’d rather avoid the crowds on the banks, there are plenty of other vantage points from which to take in the display, and fill your rumbling belly at the same time. The South Bank Surf Club will be hosting a night featuring a stack of live entertainment and food and drinks packages for those looking to be close to the action but not in the thick of it. The Spaghetti House Trattoria will be offering a special menu, Che Asado patrons can indulge in an asado meat platter for two and a jug of sangria for a special Riverfire price, while The Charming Squire will have live music all night. Take in the sights from The Fox Hotel’s Dandy’s Rooftop bar and enjoy a swinging cocktail party while you’re at it. Riverlife at the Naval Stores is hosting its own party, complete with pop-up restaurant and live entertainment. Mercure Brisbane will be offering a deluxe seafood buffet, a four-hour beverage package and some of the best views in town. Shadow Lounge will be hosting a Riverfire soiree, while Jade Buddha will be celebrating for a cause with its Kids Helpline Riverfire Fundraiser, while The Point Hotel is offering a deluxe Riverfire viewing, accommodation and dining package. Jump aboard one of Brisbane Whale Watching’s boats, or set sail aboard the Kookaburra River Queen and enjoy your Riverfire on the water. The Stamford Plaza and several Eagle Street Pier dining destinations will be hosting special dinners on the night as well – check out what is on offer at the Bavarian Bier Cafe, ARIA, Pony, Il Centro and Nagomi.
