Baby, you’re a firework – Sunsuper Riverfire is returning to Brisbane this September

Last year took a lot from us, with the majority of our city’s most beloved events completely wiped from the calendar. One of our favourite annual events, Sunsuper Riverfire was replaced by a month-long light-and-laser extravaganza in 2020 due to COVID restrictions, and although dazzling, we did miss our yearly dose of pyrotechnics. Fast forward a year and Riverfire is back is back with a … bang (sorry, we had to) this September.

For the first time since 2019, Brisbane’s sky will once again light up in a rainbow wheel of colours thanks to the much-anticipated return of Sunsuper Riverfire on Saturday September 25. Presented by Brisbane Festival and Brisbane City Council, Sunsuper Riverfire 2021 will be able to be visible from hundreds of vantage points across the city with fireworks set off from bridges, barges and inner-city rooftops. Ahead of the firework display, the Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force will demonstrate its flying prowess with helicopters performing sky-high displays and the Roulettes returning with its awe-inspiring aerobatics.

The free fireworks spectacular is a highlight of the Brisbane Festival program – which is set to fill the city with art, music and cultural festivities from September 3–25. If you’re not up to leaving the comforts of your cosy living room, you can sit back, relax and watch all of the Riverfire goodness broadcasted live on Channel Nine. More exciting details about Sunsuper Riverfire will be revealed over the coming months so keep an eye on the Brisbane Festival website for further announcements.
