Music lovers can treat their ears to the wonder of live opera from March 4–5 when the Sunset Opera takes over South Bank’s Riverside Green for an unmissable two-night series of twilight concerts. With a baby grand piano taking centre stage, a line-up of Opera Queensland’s elite performers will send their stellar sounds across the grassy knoll on both Saturday and Sunday nights, with the stunning city skyline as the backdrop.

Presented by Live at South Bank and hosted by ABC Radio Brisbane presenter Loretta Ryan, the ticketed open-air Sunset Opera concerts will kick off at 5:00 pm both nights – plenty of time to settle in ahead of the two 30-minute performances each evening. In between being serenaded by the show-stopping performances (which will feature popular opera pieces with a sneak preview of Opera Queensland’s upcoming season), ticket holders can soak up the glittering city views from the comfort of their picnic rug while enjoying tasty eats from a raft of food stalls and tipples from licensed pop-up bars. Tickets to the Sunset Opera are just $8 and are available from February 10 via Ticketek – but, a hot tip, you’ll need to be quick.

It doesn’t end there! The Sunset Opera concerts will be preceded each day by Riverside Melodies – family-friendly daytime event where you can dance the day away to some of the greatest hits from your all-time favourite musicals from across the decades. Bonus – entry is free! Bring the whole gang down from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday for a riverside dance-off in the sunshine, with plenty of pop-up food and drink vendors serving brunch snacks to keep you fuelled and ready for the next banger tune.

Mark March 4–5 in your calendars, dust off the picnic rugs and gear up for a weekend of immersive live opera by night, and free family-friendly beats by day.

Live at South Bank is proudly supported by Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government initiative and by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
