Sunnytown adds a touch of surrealism to the stage

The newest production to hit the La Boite Theatre Company stage is a dreamlike journey through the subconscious.

From October 14–31, La Boite’s Roundhouse Theatre will host Sunnytown, an imaginative production that gives audiences a glimpse into the mind of a young person dealing with change. The central character is Danika Hart who, on her 13th birthday, finds herself in a strange reality with only her close friend Miranda to keep her sane. Danika travels through the perilous realm of Sunnytown Municipal Extravaganza Mall in a search for clarity and hope.

Sunnytown is directed by Heather Fairbairn, and examines Danika’s journey as she tries to cope with issues of domestic violence and a volatile relationship between her parents. The production is the brainchild of NIDA graduates Heather and Krystal Sweedman and features a cast of up-and-coming theatrical talents. Sunnytown is running at La Boite Theatre Company as part of its Indie season, which gives rising talents the chance to realise their dreams in front of larger audiences.
