Settle in for family-friendly holiday fun with SummerSet

As much as they are a blessing, school holidays can also be a serious challenge. The first couple of weeks roll by and it feels like there aren’t enough movies, museums or parks in the world to keep your kids entertained. That being said, why not try something different this year? QPAC’s SummerSet series is running through to late January 2017 to answer all of your kid-friendly amusement prayers – and don’t fret for your sanity, because these are the sorts of shows that even adults can enjoy (no disrespect to Peppa Pig).

This year’s SummerSet program is a total winner, featuring a mix of live-action demonstrations, bright and bold landscapes and classic theatrics. This weekend is your last chance to see the awesome stage adaptation of Eric Carle’s beloved The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which has been delighting audiences the world over. This one is worth it for the sets alone – so many colours! Coming into the New Year, there is an awesome range of shows that are ideal for kids of all ages. One to watch out for is Steve Blackshall’s Deadly 60 Pole to Pole, a live adaptation of the popular BBC series of the same name. Audiences will be treated to a theatrical journey of wild discovery and dangerous entertainment – ideal for any kids who are into nature and animals.

Further down the track in January, the ever-popular Mister Maker will be popping up on stage for an all-in interactive experience. This arts and crafts extravaganza also features charming song and dance numbers that will get toes tapping and bums wiggling. Also coming in hot for a slightly longer season is The Snail and the Whale, another super sweet picture book adaptation. The Tall Stories crew are behind this production – these are the same folks responsible for The Gruffalo stage show, so you know it’s legit.

You can still nab tickets to the SummerSet shows over at the QPAC website and to stay up to date with changes to the program it’s best to sign up to the family waitlist.
