The Fortitude Music Hall and Brisbane Symphony Orchestra team up for dazzling concert series Strings Attached

If you’re a regular attendee of live gigs, then you’re probably well acquainted with The Fortitude Music Hall. The gargantuan live-entertainment venue is situated on Brunswick Street Mall, and since opening its doors in 2019 has seen many a talented performer take its stage. To kick off 2021 with a bang, The Fortitude Music Hall is joining forces with Brisbane Symphony Orchestra (BSO) to lift the curtains on its new concert series – Strings Attached. Not to be scoffed at, these live gigs have recruited not only the talented folk at BSO but some pretty spectacular musicians along for the ride …

Strap in for something completely different, music lovers – The Fortitude Music Hall and BSO’s Strings Attached concert series is coming in hot next month. Kicking off the first show is acclaimed singer-songwriter Vera Blue, who will be taking advantage of the hall’s grand acoustics for her spellbinding show on Friday March 26. Vera will expertly marry her ethereal melodies with BSO’s heavenly string sounds throughout her set, which will feature renditions of her beloved folk-pop hits and takes on classic tracks like ‘Xanadu’ and ‘Edelweiss’.

The fun continues when Melbourne rockers The Smith Street Band unite with the talented folk of BSO on Saturday May 22. Following hot on the heels of Vera’s performance, the high-energy band will fuse contemporary rock with traditional orchestral chords to create a sparkling musical experience. Event-goers can expect to hear some Smith Street originals as well as some stirring orchestral hits like the Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Tonight, Tonight’. This brand-new performance series was made possible via support from the Federal Government’s RISE Grant initiative, which is helping to provide a lifeline to live music so that we can continue to keep catching sets from our favourite musos well into 2021.

Keen to head along to these bewitching concerts? Members pre-sale for both Vera Blue and The Smith Street Band begins on Thursday February 11 at 9:00 am AEST and runs until Friday February 12 at 8:00 am AEST. General public tickets are on sale Friday February 12 from 9:00 am AEST.

The Weekend Edition is an official partner of Strings Attached. To learn more about this starry series of gigs, head to The Fortitude Music Hall website.
