When we think of the best movie soundtracks of all time, Baz Luhrmann’s films all rank high on our list. Our personal favourite is his 2001 masterpiece Moulin Rouge, a fever-dream of fantastical theatre, heart-bleeding romance and musical extravagance starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor as star-crossed lovers. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film that continues to dazzle and get viewers dancing, the fine folk at The Fortitude Music Hall have reimagined Moulin Rouge’s soundtrack as a live-music show. On Friday December 10, some of Brisbane’s most treasured local musicians will be taking the stage for an evening of love ballads, glamour and bohemian brilliance!

The final piece in the puzzle of Baz Luhrmann’s Red Curtain TrilogyMoulin Rouge was released 20 years ago and, if you ask musical lovers, the world hasn’t been the same since. This iconic song-filled spectacle is getting new life breathed into it thanks to The Fortitude Music Hall, which is transforming the revolutionary film into a riveting rock-and-roll show starring some of Queensland’s finest musos. Arranged and performed by Brisbane theatrical art collective Boss Moxi, Spectacular, Spectacular will see music from the soundtrack performed live by a 15-piece band, a horn-and-string stage ensemble and of course, a star-studded line-up of guest vocalists and performers.

The evening will be lead by MC Eddie Baroo (Mr. Inbetween) playing the role of Harold Zidler, who will guide event-goers through a glamorous journey starring ex-Powderfinger member Darren Middleton, Sarah Mcleod, Sahara Beck, Hope D, Patience Hodgson, Tia Gostelow, Tim Nelson and Pauline Maudy, to name a few. Your favourite songs from the chart-topping soundtrack will be making an appearance with ‘Lady Marmalade’, ‘Come What May’, ‘Your Song’ and many more set to get tune-chasers singing along. Phluxus2 Dance Collective will be delighting guests on the ground level with cabaret antics, while those at the seated mezzanine tables can make like the Duke and watch all of the bewitching and bedazzling efforts from high above the action.

The full-line up of artists set to serenade audiences at Spectacular, Spectacular will be revealed shortly. Pre-sale tickets will go on sale at 9:00 am Wednesday October 20 whilst general tickets will go on sale at 9:00 am Thursday October 21. Head here to secure yours. And remember, “the greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return”.
