Explore a century of Spanish cinema at Australian Cinémathèque
A retrospective of the works of Spanish film director, screenwriter and producer Pedro Almodóvar is showing at Australian Cinémathèque. Coinciding with the Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado exhibition, this reflective program will run until September 2, showing all 18 of his films.
The most influential Spanish filmmaker of his generation, Pedro Almodóvar is renowned for complex, provocative narratives that transcend a multitude of genres, from comedy to horror. From his first-ever film Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón (Pepi, Luci Bom and Other Girls Like Mom) produced in 1980, to his most recent La Piel que Habito (The Skin I Live In) in 2011, absorb the genius of this silver-screen mastermind before his next film I’m So Excited, starring Antonio Bandera and Penelope Cruz, is released.
Also showing until November 4 is 100 Years of Spanish Cinema. A curated program of more than 70 films from 1905 to 2010, 100 Years of Spanish Cinema shows the progression from silent and black-and-white films to the coloured works of modern cinema.
