South Bank Parklands celebrates 30 years with a new live-music program and guided tours
Officially opened in 1992, beloved Brisbane landmark South Bank Parklands celebrates its 30th birthday this year. To mark this huge milestone, South Bank is welcoming a brand-new program of live tunes and entertainment this season – think jazz music on the green and guided tours full of fun facts.
Thirty years as a successful cultural, entertainment and dining destination is no easy feat, and it’s worth celebrating. That’s exactly what beautiful riverside precinct South Bank Parklands is going to do, with a whole lot of fun-filled activities on the cards for this winter. The precinct is kicking off the celebrations with the announcement of a brand-new program of live tunes and entertainment coming to the banks in July. Avid gig-goers can expect to treat their ears to live jazz on the green and sunset vinyl listening parties – and the best part is, it’s all for free!
History buffs can get their fill with a free 90-minute guided tour of South Bank, which will be full of behind-the-scenes stories about the Parklands. Tour guides will share interesting tales about the parkland’s evolution and design over three decades, with strollers sure to hear about the maritime history of the area, the incredible transformation of the parkland after World Expo 88, and how the parklands have survived the recent floods. To pre-register for a guided tour, visit the South Bank Parklands Eventbrite page.
