Born from the minds of the Brothers Grimm in nineteenth-century Germany, you could certainly argue that the tale of Snow White is one of the most enduring of all time. The story has it all – magic mirrors, poisoned apples and a touch of matricide just to kick it up a notch. An instant classic! The creative dream team of La Boite Theatre Company and Opera Queensland are behind this engrossing take on the narrative and have focused heavily on the darker side of things ­– less of the chipper singing dwarves and more of the brutality. Far from clean-cut, this version was made to blur the boundaries between good and evil, truth and lies, right and wrong.

The cast of four musicians and four exceptional singer/actors are specialists in styles spanning opera to rock, combining their strengths create a world that is deeply sensual, immersive and haunting (in the best possible way). These talented folk perform under the direction of Opera Queensland’s Lindy Hume, with a badass score by Zulya Kamalova set to Suzie Miller’s  graceful text. La Boite’s intimate Roundhouse Theatre is playing host to the production, creating the ideal atmosphere for audiences to get up close and very, very personal. Book a babysitter if necessary, because this Snow White certainly ain’t for kids.
