Inclusivity icon Sinéad Burke announces her first Australian visit for RESORT

Attention all trendsetters and trailblazers – James Street RESORT, one of Brisbane’s most anticipated celebrations of cutting-edge culture, is set to return on October 10–12. The team behind the annual event series has revealed the first of its esteemed guests, announcing that disability advocate and activist Sinéad Burke will make her first (and only) Australian appearance at RESORT this year.

Every year, Brisbane’s retail, art, design and food communities descend on James Street for RESORT a series of events that shine a light on international trends, enlightening ideas and local endeavours. The event is well known for bringing notable figures to Brisbane to share their unique insight into the cultural sphere at large, with previous speakers including photographer, director and consultant Margaret Zhang, contemporary artist and designer Jonathan Zawada, and philosopher and former Google data scientist Seth Stephens-Davidowitz. For its 2019 iteration, James Street RESORT has announced that globally renowned changemaker Sinéad Burke will be participating in a number of events across the three-day program.

Sinéad Burke is a noted inclusivity activist, disability advocate, educator, writer and academic. Through her work, Sinéad has endeavoured to shine a light on the lack of inclusivity within the fashion and design industries, while also critiquing the attitudes of the media and government agencies in regards to their treatment of marginalised members of our society. Sinéad will be participating in numerous events over the course of James Street RESORT, but those eager to hear her thoughts on how best to broaden perception and understanding of inclusivity should mark Friday October 11 in their calendar, when Sinéad will be presenting a public discussion on the matter. Stay tuned for more announcements and the full program as we approach October 10–12.
