Explore Seeing Things at Metro Arts

As has been proven by a myriad of famous bands and collaborators, it’s often the friendships formed in school that prove the most enduring. This is the kind of kinship artists Dan McCabe and Mitchell Donaldson have. The lads met as peers at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art and found a shared love of creation that drove them to form the artist-run initiative, Addition.

The creative duo will shortly present its joint exhibition, Seeing Things, at Metro Arts. The collection of works reflects into the boys’ interest in abstraction and materiality, especially in contemporary society. More specifically, Mitchell uses his work to question the possibility of unmaking found objects and images, while Dan explores preconceived understandings of an image.

While the lads both began their schooling as painting majors, their latest exhibition includes a far wider exploration of the different mediums available in the art world. Seeing Things incorporates found objects, alongside elements of drawing, painting and photography.

Seeing Things will be open for perusal from May 22 to June 8 at Metro Arts in Brisbane City. On June 7, Mitchell and Dan will re-curate Seeing Things as a part of a special event that will also see an online publication launched – one that features an interview with both artists and an exhibition review.
