Leap into QPAC’s stunning International Series when The Royal Ballet comes to town

QPAC is no stranger to prestigious global guests – the venue has a reputation for bringing some amazing names right here to Brisbane, and this year’s International Series is no exception. One visitor we have been hanging out for is almost here – from June 29 to July, The Royal Ballet is bringing two equally stunning works to our shores for the series. Each work is an Australian premiere, making these some of the hottest (and fanciest) tickets in town.

The Royal Ballet opens QPAC’s International Series with the highly anticipated Woolf Works, Wayne McGregor’s critically acclaimed triptych based on material by Virginia Woolf. Each of the three acts has been inspired by one of Woolf’s milestone works – Mrs DallowayOrlando and The Waves – intertwining them with elements from her letters, essays and diaries. This ballet was Wayne’s first full-length work for the company, reuniting him with regular collaborator Max Richter. Max was commissioned to write the score for Woolf Works, which blends both electronic and orchestral elements.

Following this is The Winter’s Tale, a Shakespearian adaptation from the mind of the incomparable Christopher Wheeldon. This is the artistic associate’s eighth work for The Royal Ballet and also marks the first full-length adaptation of The Bard’s work since 1995. This production features designs and costumes by Bob Crowley, a score by Joby Talbot, lighting design by Natasha Katz and music direction by David Briskin – a veritable dream team of talent. The full-length story ballet chronicles the disintegration of a marriage through consuming jealousy, the abandonment of a child and a seemingly hopeless love – all of the drama, thanks.

The Royal Ballet’s The Winter’s Tale and Woolf Works arrive in Brisbane for the exclusive 2017 QPAC International Series season from June 29 to July 9 – grab your tickets through QTIX before they all disappear.
