Robert MacPherson: The Painter’s Reach opens at GOMA

The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) is set to host a major exhibition of works by senior Australian artist Robert MacPherson from July 25 to October 18, 2015.

For close to three months, the illustrious works of Robert MacPherson – one of Australia’s most significant and admired living artists – will proudly occupy the walls of GOMA in the free exhibition, Robert MacPherson: The Painter’s Reach.

Curated by New York-based writer, Ingrid Periz, the exhibition includes paintings, installations, ephemera and works on paper, showing how Robert’s reach begins with the particular and extends far beyond. It will showcase significant works from the QAGOMA collection including Mayfair: (Swamp rats) Ninety-seven signs for C.P., J.P., B.W., G.W. & R.W. 1994–95, and a major new acquisition yet to be announced, as well as important loans from public and private collections. Widely exhibited and collected in Australia, and with a significant presence in international events like the Sharjah Biennial (United Arab Emirates) and the Singapore Biennale, Robert’s bold artwork is known for its dry Australian character and sense of humour.

Simultaneously, the Children’s Art Centre at GOMA is hosting a free exhibition Robert MacPherson: Swags and Swamp Rats until 5 October, which encourages little ones to get involved in multimedia activities that explore aspects of Australian life, history, language and people.
