Ricky Maynard’s photographs come to Brisbane Powerhouse

For Ricky Maynard, photography is “an intimate conversation between two people”.

After working as a self-taught documentary photographer for more than two decades, Ricky Maynard has assembled a captivating and insightful collection of photographs.

Known for his humanist approach to photography, Ricky Maynard’s work has a strong focus on many of the issues currently faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. With that goal in mind, the photographer captures striking images that, once viewed, are not easily forgotten.

Selected from six bodies of work, Ricky Maynard: Portrait of a Distant Land is a collection of 60 photographs of sites significant to the self-taught artist’s people and evocative portraits of indigenous prison inmates.

The exhibition will be on display at Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm until May 6.
