Light up your weekend with the Illuminations Festival
The local community of Wynnum will gather together this Saturday June 21 to share in the RE/MAX Advantage Illuminations Festival, which will see the foreshore lit up with lanterns and fire twirlers.
Sitting just 16 km east of Brisbane City, Wynnum feels like a world away from the bustle of the CBD. Thanks to its location on the shores of Moreton Bay, the suburb boasts a scenic waterfront, which is set to play hospitable host to the RE/MAX Advantage Illuminations Festival this Saturday June 21. Kicking off at midday and running until 9:00 pm, the community celebration will see roving street performers, musicians and fire twirlers filling the foreshore and jetty area. Enjoy skilled demonstrations by the Manly Dragon Boats in the Wynnum Wading Pool and admire the RE/MAX Advantage hot air balloon nearby.
Shoppers will love a lazy potter through the market stalls as they browse locally produced goods, fuel up on fresh food and purchase glowsticks in anticipation of the evening Lantern Parade. Leaving the site of the former Wynnum Central School on sundown at 5:00 pm, the parade will weave its way through Edith Street and finish up at the Wynnum Wading Pool, where participants will rest their glowing lanterns as they’re officially welcomed by representatives of the Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation. From 6:00–9:00 pm, an illuminated light show will project images of local children’s art around the space, while a creative fire sculpture by local artist Daniele Lemarche-Sarvia will light up Pandanus Beach.
