Celebrate the Sunshine State this Queensland Week
On June 6 1859, Queen Victoria signed a document called the Letters Patent, authorising Queensland’s separation from New South Wales and confirming its status as an independent colony. This day is now known as Queensland Day.
Running from Saturday May 31 to Sunday June 8, Queensland Week is a celebration of the state’s official separation from New South Wales. The week-long program of events offers folks a chance to come together and celebrate all the things we love about our state, from the beautiful landscapes and weather to fresh local produce and laid-back lifestyle.
Embracing the quintessential culture of the Sunshine State, this year’s program will feature The Great Queensland Week Adventure Trail, Queensland Greats Awards, Queensland Day in the Office and the Queensland Week Citizenship Ceremony. Listen to local choirs belt out some moving tunes, admire the spoken skills of bush poets, welcome refugees to the local community at the annual Luminous Lantern Parade at South Bank or take a guided tour through a local museum. Browse events by map to see what’s close to you or check out the full program online.
