QAGOMA will get your motor running with these high-octane motorcycle events

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably well aware that our little river city has become a mecca for all things motorcycle these past few months. It’s all thanks to QAGOMA’s world-exclusive The Motorcycle: Design, Art, Desire exhibition, which is showcasing the art, design and history of the iconic two-wheeled vehicle. Now, the gallery is cranking up the momentum on this awe-inspiring spectacle and is introducing a roster of virtual events, an outdoor festival and an evening full of tales from the road.

If you’re yet to visit (or re-visit) The Motorcycle at QAGOMA, you’ll be happy to learn that you can now get a taste of the high-octane action from the comforts of home with some revved-up virtual events filling up the calendar. Cure your curiosity and gather your brainiac bike-loving mates for a night of motorcycle trivia hosted by Isolation Trivia host Aimon Clark, where you’ll learn some chopper-centric facts as you compete for tickets to the exhibition plus cool moto-merch from the QAGOMA Store. Other exciting happenings include a virtual book club discussing the 2013 novel The Flamethrowers, a discussion with homegrown motorcycle adventurer, author and speaker Heather Ellis about her book Ubuntu: One Woman’s Motorcycle Odyssey Across Africa and a live-streamed conversation with author, reviewer and pulp scholar Andrew Nette, who will take thrill-seekers on a journey through the different representations of the motorcycle in youth and pop-culture history. Proving that bikes aren’t just for the blokes, there will be a special International Women’s Day event with an all-female panel who are changing the image of riding, and a live-streamed edition PechaKucha, where you can hear from Brisbane’s best-and-brightest creative thinkers as they discuss the theme of ‘journey’.

The motorised activity speeds up with QAGOMA’s outdoor festival Motorcycles on The Green on Saturday February 27, where there will be DJ sets from Patience Hodgson and Lori Lee, a mammoth showcase of bikes courtesy of Historic Motorcycle Club of Queensland and a pop-up workshop that spotlights some dazzling custom motorcycle builds. If that’s not enough fun, you’ll also score a ticket to experience all of the hopped-up goodness of The Motorcycle exhibition! If you’re keen to hear from some true rev-heads, then make tracks to the gallery on Tuesday April 20 for The Motorcycle: Storytelling Night. In this special evening hosted by Yarn Storytelling, guests will hear tales of adventure and freedom from the road. There’s sure to be a Wild Hogs-esque tale or two.
