Prize Fighter set to pack a punch at La Boite

Prize Fighter set to pack a punch at La Boite

As part of the Brisbane Festival, La Boite will transform its Roundhouse Theatre for a truly memorable performance, based on a true story.

From 5 September, La Boite’s Roundhouse Theatre – Australia’s only purpose-built theatre-in-the-round – will transform into a spectacular boxing arena to showcase the story of Isa, a talented young Congolese boxer, in Prize Fighter. Played by the talented Pacharo Mzembe, Isa’s boxing prowess offers a promising new life in Australia; however, as he prepares himself for the biggest fight of his career, he is taunted by his troublesome past defined by war and grief.

Prize Fighter is the debut theatre piece by La Boite Playwright-in-Residence, Future D. Fidel, whose writing is based on his own story and those of people he has known. Fleeing the Congo as a child, Future lived in a Tanzanian refugee camp for eight years before being granted refugee status in Australia. Joining Pacharo Mzembe on the stage is his brother, Gideon Mzambe, and Sophia Emberson-Brain, forming an all-Brisbane cast in lead roles. Bookings are now open.
