Postcards to Brisbane decorates Grey Street, South Bank
Street art is forever reinventing itself. From stencils to paste-ups and dispatchwork to yarn bombing, the street acts as a canvas to some of the most creative, stealth and eclectic art works.
For those sorely missing the splash of colour that the red and orange fabric-wrapped trees lining Grey Street brought to South Bank earlier in the year, a new street exhibition has filled the void. Wrapped around the posts beneath the Grey Street pergola are collections of graphic short stories – photographs taken by Australian architects depicting their surroundings and adventures.
Giving insight into the everyday sightings that inspire architects, each photographic submission showing as part of Postcards to Brisbane is a collection of four images telling visual stories from the Brisbane floods to the lively streets of West End and even travels through Japan.
Hosted by South Bank Corporation, supported by Australian Institute of Architects, Young Architects Queensland and coordinated by the Architectural Practice Academy, this free, on-the-street exhibition is running until June 7 in conjunction with the 2012 National Architecture Conference.
