Patrick Langlois at Lethbridge Gallery

A foray into form with Patrick Langlois

The curvaceous tendancies of the human form (particularly for the female sex) has inspired the creative habits of painters for centuries. From Titian Vecellio and Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s deified ladies to the modern figures of Lucian Freud, the nude is a subject with endless opportunities of exploration in the artworld.

This weekend, the work of Patrick Langlois will arrive at Lethbridge Gallery – an artist who shares a passion for celebrating the human form in his creativity. The former Englishman established himself as a professional artist overseas and was awarded the prestigious De Saumarez Prize for Art while still in college for his efforts. But, after setting down his roots in Queensland in 1996, Brett has immersed himself in the local art scene, exhibiting in local galleries all around the state.

Patrick’s latest exhibition continues to showcase his passion for figure drawing and the female form. The collection of artworks combines the shape of the body with experimentation in texture. Each piece features a woman, intertwined with a background of pattern and texture, which is created though a layering process. This sees the canvas covered with coarse texture that is reminiscent of stuccoed walls or rusting plates, on to which the figures are then drawn. Patrick’s exhibition is running from this March 21 until April 10.
