Get in touch with the natural side of life at Parks Alive

Here in Brisbane, you would be forgiven for taking the abundant natural beauty for granted. One of the crowning jewels in our lush landscape is the Roma Street Parkland – home to many a beautiful flower, the shadiest trees, the softest grass and an all-around wholesome place to spend time. Whether you’re tossing a football around, nibbling on a picnic or just kicking back, it’s easy to forget that the Parkland isn’t just some effortlessly occurring paradise – turns out a heck of a lot of hard work goes into keeping the place looking ace. Parks Alive is returning to Roma Street Parkland on August 5 and 6 to shine a light on all of the behind-the-scenes action, as well as showing us how to make the best of our enviable environment.

The two-day roster of Parks Alive is jam-packed with things to see and do – we’re talking workshops, tours, performances and even some cheeky food tastings. The guided walks on offer this year are pretty impressive, with particular highlights being the rainforest walk and bush tucker walk (complete with a rustic high tea at the end). The workshops you can dig into perfectly mix fun, practicality and sustainability – have a crack at making your own chocolate face mask, whip up some personalised soap or even get in on some essential oils action. If you have little ones they will be kept very busy with pizza making, storytelling and a live appearance from dirtgirl all on the cards for the weekend.

For those who have worked up an appetite, some of Brisbane’s fave food trucks will be on the scene to sate any tummy rumbles – grab bites from Good Food Fellas, Na Meche Place, Phat Boys, Dirty Donutz, Dannyboys and Ms Daisy’s Ice Cream Emporium, plus tasty java from My Morning Glory Coffee. Be sure to take your empty coffee cup to the Plant Clinic, where you can recycle it by planting up a seedling to take home and grow in your own garden. Lush!

Feeling fresh? You can check out the entire Parks Alive program and plan your weekend itinerary here.
