Parallel Universes showcases a retrospective of video art at QUT
Seminal Australian video art will feature alongside works from the UK, USA and Japan in the latest exhibition to grace The Block at QUT. Parallel Universes will exhibit a selection of significant video art from between 1970 and 1985, exploring the conceptual and stylistic experimentation that emerged at the time.
Focusing in on the three themes of ‘Politics of Narrative’, ‘Media is the Message’ and ‘Performance, Identity, Video’, Parallel Universes presents a retrospective of 20 major video artists. As technology continues to advance, this exhibition delivers a historical, nostalgic perspective on what has become an increasingly prominent contemporary arts practice.
From the works of the pioneer of video art Nam June Paik and American polymath artist Bruce Nauman, to Australian names Mike Parr and Peter Callas, Parallel Universes will showcase some of the world’s most acclaimed producers of this popular art form. Discover how and why video art emerged and its influences on modern practices at The Block at QUT Kelvin Grove until August 4.
