Suburb celebrations with local artist Jan Jorgensen

Local artist Jan Jorgensen is a keen observer of the city’s comings and goings. Combining her interests in her hometown of Brisbane with her talent with a paintbrush, Jan chronicles the daily lives of residents and regions of the city’s inner suburbs. In each of her paintings, bright colours clash with lively strokes, reflecting and celebrating the energy of the city around her. Locals will instantly recognise iconography that’s reflective of Brisbane, from CityCats to jacarandas in bloom, bridges and the timber verandahs of a Queenslander. You can explore Jan’s creations at Lethbridge Gallery from September 29 to October 31 more

Discover the water-soaked wonder of SOAP

A fusion of modern circus, comedy, cabaret and bathtubs, it’s unlikely you’ve ever seen a show like SOAP before. Just another addition to this year’s impressive Brisbane Festival program, SOAP transforms a typical stage into a bathroom, providing its eight acrobats with a floor of tubs to use as props throughout the performance. The steamy production will also include some opera and a little romance, with a love story woven into the plot. Directed by Markus Pabst and Maximilian Rambaek, this will be the first time the German show will have been performed in Queensland. @ QPAC, September 18–22 more
