Discover Linde Ivimey’s If Pain Persists

With an eye for the unusual, artist Linde Ivimey has formed a career from the creation of unique, and somewhat ghoulish, sculpture. The Sydney-based creative talent has a new exhibition on show at UQ Art Museum – If Pain Persists. The collection of works will take a gander at Linde’s career portfolio, with some of her earliest artworks included, as well as her most recent. Not only will visitors be able to see Linde’s growth as an artist, but witness her signature use of curious natural materials, including fibre, hessian, animal bones and gemstones. These materials are used to create warped and dishevelled figures, each representing a unique personal story. @ UQ Art Museum, November 2 to March 24 more

Former school chums Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach have come a long way since forming their group The Black Keys while still in suburban Ohio. The gents may have been college dropouts at the time, but they have since proven their musical worth, with a growing league of diehard fans worldwide. After tours throughout their home nation, as well as Canada, the UK and Europe, The Black Keys will be visiting its Australian fan base. On October 26, the talented duo will be playing the crowds of the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. The Fortitude Valley gallery will provide a ghoulish backdrop for creative duo Dirie Dirie Me‘s latest release – a range of Day of the Dead-themed tea sets, made exclusively for Australian tea company SLURP. From 6:30–9:00 pm this Thursday the designs will be on display, with all items available for purchase and a silent auction running to raise money for the QLD Blood Bank. It’s not often that the story of a young professional footy player encounters a world of sequins, feathers and drag, but that’s exactly what occurs in Managing Carmen. Queensland Theatre Company’s latest production, the show explores the world of hot-shot young player Brent Lyall. He seems to have it all – as a professional AFL player he has achieved two Brownlow medals, as well as being perfectly settled with a bombshell girlfriend. What Brent hides however is a fetish for dressing up in women’s clothes.
