Enjoy life’s Trivia at Brisbane Arts Theatre

A night immersed in trivia seems to be replacing a casual tipple on weekdays (or weekends if you are all the more dedicated). The theoretical team sport that tests your wits can be found played regularly around Brisbane, from local RSLs to destinations that are a little cooler, like Archive Beer Boutique. The current obsession with the simple quiz has inspired the creation of the production Trivia. The plot follows a group of friends who form a team to compete in their local trivia competition, all the while learning life lessons in the process. Trivia will be performed at Brisbane Arts Theatre from March 23 to April 20. more

Rejoice at Status Quo’s return to the stage

There are very few bands that can claim to have seen 50 years in the music industry, but Status Quo is one of them. The band was originally founded by schoolboys Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster in 1962, but soon became a fully fledged rock ‘n’ roll offering in the years that followed. During its time making music, the British group has managed to achieve the impressive acclaim of 60 hits within the UK charts alone (including ‘Paperplane’ and ‘Rockin’ All Over The World’). The group will visit the Brisbane Convention and Entertainment Centre on Thursday March 28 to give Brisbane audiences a chance to experience the latest album, Quid Pro Quo, in person. more

Say bienvenue to the Alliance Française French Film Festival

Think of France and more often than not your mind will linger on an array of devastatingly rich cuisine, where aged cheeses intermingle with crisp baguettes and rich wine at a single meal. But, as well as its buttery pastry and (of course) unfalteringly chic women, the Gallic nation is also home to film fanatics and creators, who are celebrated at the annual Alliance Française French Film Festival. more

Foray into the cinematic world of Gregory Crewdson

Celebrated American photographer Gregory Crewdson will soon find a home (or at least his images will) at the IMA. Three series of the talent’s dramatic works will be on display – including Beneath the Roses, Sanctuary and Fireflies. Each of these large colour photographs forage into Gregory’s interest in human alienation, intertwined with his love of Edward Hopper paintings and the films of iconic director David Lynch. The cinematic images depict homes, streets and woods from a range of unidentified small American towns, as well as scenes from around Rome’s Cinecitta film studios and his family’s cabins in the woods. Though vastly different in setting, Gregory’s photographs remain emotionally charged and somewhat haunting in their depiction of isolation. In a Lonely Place will run March 16 to May 25.
