Hear the clamorous tapping of Rhythm Junkies

Get tap-happy at Brisbane Powerhouse during the Rhythm Junkies: Revived performances, which will run from Wednesday November 6 to Sunday November 10. Hear the heavy pitter-patter of three high-energy tap dancers, three Irish dancers, two African drummers, an Irish fiddle player, a didgeridoo player and a group of puppets as they come together for an interesting series of performances. The show’s tap-dancing troupe Red Hot Rhythm is a Brisbane-based bunch known for its lightening-speed tap-dancing abilities (and for reaching the grand finals on television show, Australia’s Got Talent). more

Pleasure of Place photographs unveiled at QAG

Blending his passions for architecture and photography, Richard Stringer’s Pleasure of Place photographic exhibition will be showcased at Queensland Art Gallery from Saturday October 26. The renowned photographer and teacher’s distinguished career has spanned four decades and his latest exhibition embraces industrial archaeology, urban environments and interesting landscapes. Examining the artist’s connection to architecture and photography, his Queensland-oriented photographs portray contemporary and historic images from Brisbane and throughout the state. The opening day will also feature a curator’s perspective talk by Michael Hawker, who will explore Richard’s achievements and the transformation of the depicted landscapes in the exhibition. The online gallery will explore ten inspiring tales that share a common thread – the impression on the lives of those touched by Museum of Brisbane’s work. In two sessions on Saturday October 26, Bird Gallery and Studio will host Travestying, an art exhibition incorporating song, dance and fashion. Burlesque performers will tell tragic tales, with a touch of humour, including Travestying – the saddening story of Madam Perrier. The gallery will also display the oil paintings of Onniye.K, portraying famed burlesque dancers such as Lola the Vamp, Bella De Jac, Magnolia Knife, Tiddie St Pie, Patooti St Pie, Ruby Ripe, Tina Joy and more – many of whom will be performing on the day. more
