Stemming from a fascination with the illusory voids created between splashes of brilliant colours in artworks, Marisa Purcell brings fresh vibrancy to Edwina Corlette Gallery. By experiencing the artworks of Marisa Purcell, a viewer can become privy to the ghostly forms that hide within her canvases – in between the bold splashes of colour that first catch your eye. Describing the voids as liminal spaces, Marisa considers these places active zones in which the artist and viewer can interact beyond the constraints of time and physical space. Drawing examples from artists of the past, who similarly exploited the power of paint to exemplify spiritual sensation, Marisa creates her unique works that negate the need for a specified subject matter. The artist’s instinctive and experimental works will be exhibited at Brunswick Street’s Edwina Corlette Gallery from March 11–29. more
