Make like Picasso – the paint-and-sip studios going digital
Due to the new government legislations stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the entertainment and creative industries have had to adapt and make changes to help them weather the storm. Included in this resilient bunch are some local paint-and-sip studios that have adjusted their usual routines and have moved their classes online. That means you can now create your version of an artistic masterpiece with help from the experts in the comfort of your sweatpants. We’ve rounded up a few of the studios that are offering live streamed art sessions so instead of trying to teach yourself how to paint during self-isolation, you can consult the experts – wine in hand, of course. Before you break out the pinot, read on …
Cork & Chroma: West End paint-and-sip studio Cork & Chroma has moved its classes online to help fellow homebodies express themselves creatively and break up the daily regiment of self-isolation. The online classes are hosted by the artists at Cork & Chroma, who will live-stream painting step-by-step instructions right to your lounge room. Participants can supply their own materials, or the studio has created a bundled series of At Home Studio Kits with everything you’ll need for your live-streamed class. These kits are available for pick-up from the Montague Road studio. Sessions are $20 each and participants can register online at the Cork & Chroma website.
Cork and Canvas: Following the temporary closure of venues and events spaces due to COVID-19, Sydney-based studio Cork and Canvas has gone virtual, launching on-demand online paint-and-sip sessions that’ll surely distract us from twiddling our thumbs. For $25 participants gain access to a step-by-step video tutorial from Cork and Canvas’ senior lead artists. Your ticket to the virtual class will give you access to the video for just enough time to stop and start the tutorial so you can take the class at your own pace. Creativity kits which include paint brushes, paints and canvases can be also purchased in single pack ($65), double ($120) and family sizes ($230) and can be delivered nationally. Cork and Canvas has also teamed up with Wine Delivery service Different Drop, with creative kits including a $20 voucher that can be spent on wine orders over $100. There’s even a special Easter Bunny painting workshop for kids this weekend – chocolate eggs not included. Book here.
Pinot & Picasso: The generous creative team behind Pinot & Picasso is offering free paint-and-sip sessions on its Facebook page so you can channel your inner Van Gogh (minus the unfortunate ear incident) – all you have to do is tune in and BYO booze! There’s even kid-friendly classes, with regular sessions going live over the weekend as well as being saved on the Facebook page in case you miss out. If you’re lacking in the at-home art supplies department, you can purchase a Pinot & Picasso art box and get it delivered straight to your door. The art boxes are $69.95 each and include paint, three canvases, brushes, plenty of paint as well as a colour wheel. You’ll also score a $100 Naked Wines Voucher and a $50 discount code to do an in-studio Pinot & Picasso session when the crew are operating from their studios once again. Follow the Pinot & Picasso Facebook page for all of the latest classes. Psst … be sure to tune in for the Easter-themed ‘Boho Bunny’ portrait this Saturday.
