It’s the time of year where revellers dress in the latest Bavarian fashions and flock to the Brisbane Showgrounds to partake in merriment of the Germanic variety. Oktoberfest has arrived and several establishments around Brisbane are taking part. Over two weekends the official Oktoberfest event will offer a range of food, drink and activities, celebrating German culture at its most joyous. Wolf down as many pretzels, Black Forest cake or bratwurst as your stomach can fit and wash it all down with a stein of specialty beer. Entertainment will include traditional dancing, bell ringing, yodelling as well as the Miss Oktoberfest and Bavarian Strongmen competitions. Dress up and get involved over two weekends on October 9 to 11 or 16 to 18.

If you can’t make it to the Brisbane Showgrounds, there are plenty of other Oktoberfest celebrations taking place around town. The Brisbane German Club will be hosting an authentic Oktoberfest experience on October 25-27, featuring German music, dancing, food and more than 60 Berman beers. October 11 will see Green Beacon Brewing getting into the Oktoberfest spirit with a specially brewed keg of Bavarian Märzen to be tapped as well as spit-roasted pork from Meat at Billy’s and traditional German accompaniments. Billykart Kitchen is hosting Oktoberfest-themed Friday night dinners with a special menu boasting German kransky, currywurst, veal schnitzel, and apple strudel.  Kwan Brothers is bringing the heat to October with Woktoberfest, Vapiano will be celebrating the month with deals on delicious beer, while Bavarian Bier Cafe will be celebrating until October 31 with keg tappings, bier flights, special prizes, face painting and cookie decorating for kids and parties throughout the month. The Woolly Mammoth will be hawking German wieners and litre beer steins all month, as well as a tailored menu and dozens of German beers on tap. On Saturday October 10, The Flying Cock will host its annual Cocktoberfest party, with a techno beer hall complete with mini bratwurst and schnitzel, beer and Jägermeister on arrival. Finally, The Brunswick Hotel will be celebrating on October 24 with plenty of bier, brats and dirndls.
