Celebrate the shortest day of the year at the Northey Street Winter Solstice Festival

As we approach midwinter the days are getting shorter and the nights longer, but instead of shutting yourself away indoors, why not celebrate the height of the season with a family-friendly festival.

The Northey Street City Farm is one of the best locations for a Sunday market experience in Brisbane and now to celebrate winter in all of its glory, the City Farm team is hosting a Winter Solstice Festival on Sunday June 21. From 4:00–10:00 pm, Northey Street will be packed with all forms of events that are great for the whole family.

In several cultures, the winter solstice is an occasion to celebrate the rebirth of sunlight after the darkest period of the year. To reflect this, the Winter Solstice Festival will host affirmation writing, lantern parades and a bonfire ceremony. In addition, the evening will feature live music from guitar quartets, Mamachair and The Floyd Family Breakdown, plus a performance from the Evoke Dance and Theatre Company and a circus extravaganza from Hoopnotic Pixies and Dragon Flow. The Winter Solstice Festival is a drug and alcohol-free event, so grab the kids and come along and sample some great organic food and festive atmosphere.
