No Child… graces the stage at Brisbane Festival
Critically acclaimed one-woman show No Child… is set to grace Australian shores for the very first time as part of this year’s Brisbane Festival.
Written and performed by Nilaja Sun and directed by Hal Brooks, No Child… is a funny and clever theatrical commentary on the New York City public school system. The play follows Nilaja’s character Miss Sun as she attempts to teach sass-mouthed, sceptical tenth graders the 1988 British play Our Country’s Good.
The portrayals of all 16 characters in No Child… are performed energetically by Nilaja Sun, as she seamlessly switches from one character to the next. Drawing on her experience in some of New York’s toughest schools, Nilaja peppers the performance with real insight and wit, while pressing undertones of social issues are weaved into the mix. Earning unanimous rave reviews and awards after more than two years on the road, No Child… is a must-see, showing at Brisbane Powerhouse from September 26–29.
