Unleash your theatrical ability with NIDA in Brisbane

Unleash your theatrical ability with NIDA in Brisbane

Long before Cate Blanchett and Mel Gibson were gracing the world’s stage with a crop of blockbusters and the covers of many a magazine, they were pacing the halls of the National Institute of Dramatic Art. NIDA, as it’s more commonly known, shapes a nest of talent from Australian shores and will soon be launching a Brisbane studio for local talent.

The acclaimed Screen Actors Studio will be available to all Queensland residents – more specifically, the most talented and aspiring young actors in the state. This group will be trained in the arts of film and television, techniques, scripts, improvisation, accents, vocal techniques, castings and more.

The course is intended to be an alternative to full-time study, with classes held on weekends. This lets students hold a full-time or part-time job or study elsewhere at the same time. There are two types of courses currently available – the Screen Actors Studio and Young Actors Studio, depending on the age of participants. The classes will be held at Southbank Institute of Technology, starting in February and running until December 2013.

The process to enter both studio programs is very competitive, so if you are interested, get in front of that mirror and start practising your lines. Auditions will take place on Sunday December 2 and Sunday January 13 at SBIT. You will be able to find audition applications online or by calling NIDA Open on (02) 9697 7626.
