Musicians take to the streets for Fete de la Musique
From hip hop to classical and punk to Latin, celebrate music in all it’s diverse genres this Thursday as Fete de la Musique takes to the streets of Brisbane.
Originating in France in 1982, Fete de la Musique was the one day a year that anyone of any musical ability was allowed to busk in the streets, free of permits. Since then, this annual event has expanded worldwide and is now celebrated in 450 cities across 110 countries all on the same day.
Taking place on June 21 each year, Fete de la Musique marks the summer and winter solstice in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. From Woolloongabba to West End, and Fortitude Valley to the outer burbs, singers, instrumentalists, choirs and bands will be popping up in 81 of the most unlikely venues across Brisbane.
Find the likes of picnic music at The Old Museum and world music along the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, as music is taken out of its traditional venues. Check out the program to find out where local talents Bang Bang Boss Kelly, Little Sister, Lily Rouge and Pear and the Awkward Orchestra will be playing.
