Say thanks to Mum with a decadent Mother’s Day spread at Portside Wharf

Mothers put up with a whole lot over their lifetime (let’s be real, we all still throw the occasional toddler tantrum) and it’s only fair that they get at least one day dedicated to them. So, how do we say thanks to the woman who gave us life? As much as we’d like to give her the world, it’s kind of impossible, so we will settle for a good ol’ feast instead. If you want to be your mum’s favourite child this Mother’s Day, then treat her to a day of wining and dining at Portside Wharf – there’s everything from bubbly brunches and lavish waterfront lunches to decadent dinners and after-dark cocktails.

Mother’s Day is a prime opportunity to tell your mama how much she means to you – and there’s no better way to reach the heart than through the stomach. Since you probably can’t bring homemade pancakes and hand-picked flowers from the garden to Mum in bed anymore, the next best thing is a boozy brunch. Sip bubbles and snack on mouth-watering bites at @ Mr and Mrs Jones, where a three-course banquet of mini quiches, bacon-and-egg sliders, zucchini-and-halloumi fritters and passionfruit mousse tartlets awaits. Once the clock strikes lunchtime, make tracks to Belvedere Bar n Grill and dine on meaty morsels with a waterfront view. You’ll kick off the lunch with a shared platter filled with the likes of mortadella, prosciutto, crispy pork belly, calamari and oysters, followed by your choice of Cape Grim beef fillet, oven-roasted chicken breast, salmon fillet or gnocchi, before sating your sweet-loving senses with a selection of decadent desserts (strawberry panna cotta, anyone?).

If Mum is craving the flavours of the Mediterranean, Byblos Bar & Grill is serving up a mouth-watering mezza banquet featuring an array of Lebanese classics – think delicious dips, tabbouleh, falafel and oven-baked marinated lamb – plus, you’ll score a complimentary cocktail to sip on too. More heavenly flavours await at Italian eats haven Gusto da Gianni, where the team has created a special three-course set menu to mark the occasion. Choose from beef carpaccio, zucchini and ham strudel or marinated grilled vegetables to start, house-made ox-tail ravioli with truffle and butter sauce, pan-fried barramundi with lemon and clam veloute, wagyu rump steak with creamy mash or eggplant parmigiana for main, and an indulgent torta tenerina chocolcate cake for dessert. If Japanese is Mum’s favourite cuisine, take her to Sono Japanese Restaurant for some authentic Japanese delights and a refreshing yuzu cocktail, or if it’s a more casual feed she desires, AamayaGinga SushiBamboo Basket, Burrito Bar and Pineapple Express will all be open for dine in and takeaway. If you’re yet to snap up a present for Mum, head to the Portside Markets on Saturday May 8 from 12:00–4:00 pm to shop a huge range of goodies made by local makers and creatives. You’ll be able to snag handmade ceramics, accessories, art, natural skincare and much more.

There’s plenty on at Portside Wharf on Sunday May 9 – including a sweet serenade from musician John Reeves from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. To check out how you can wine, dine and entertain Mum, pop over here. Psst .. we’ve also heard that there are some pretty fun movies out – so be sure to visit Dendy Cinemas if it’s been a while since Mum went to the movies. The sweet scent of buttered popcorn is calling us.
