Journey to The Promised Land with Michael Parekowhai
Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art is hosting a major exhibition of works from Michael Parekowhai, one of New Zealand’s best contemporary artists.
From March 28 to June 21, Michael Parekowhai: The Promised Land will be on display at GOMA. The exhibition is the first major exhibition of the New Zealand contemporary artist that will incorporate sculpture and photographs that are multi-layered and visually stunning. Michael Parekowhai’s work has been exhibited at GOMA numerous times and his work, The World Turns 2011-12 is a permanent fixture of GOMAs waterfront grounds.
Dealing with history, space and contemporary culture, the assembled works are an eclectic mix of work created over the past two decades, with some works taking a decade to create. Michael Parekowhai’s work has been showcased internationally at major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, the Biennale of Sydney, Gwangju Biennale and the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art.
