Swing a sombrero at the Mexican Independence Day Party in Red Hill

While Mexico’s Independence Day will be observed around the world next Tuesday September 16, the folks behind Brisbane’s celebrations will be kick-starting the celebration locally at the Mexican Independence Day Party this Friday.

Local partygoers have been shaking their sombreros to salsa tunes at the annual Mexican Independence Day Party since 2006, but this year they’ll be celebrating in a new Brisbane venue, The Normanby Hotel. Come Friday September 12, the space will transform into a colourful tangle of costumes with plenty of live entertainment and Mexican food and drinks.

The festivities will kick off at 8:00 pm and run ’til late, keeping guests occupied with live Lucha Libre wrestling and a traditional dance performance from the Viva Mexico Folkloric Dance Group. Full Mariachi band Mariachi Sol De Brisbane, Latin rock band Los De Afuera and live salsa band Chukale will all be bringing the tunes, before DJs hop on the decks to spin Mexican hits and Latin Top 40 tracks. Grab your tickets online or at the door.
